Running, It’s a love it or hate it sort of thing isn’t it? But…it doesn’t have to be! Yeah, you’ve probably read 5,000 reasons to run, you’ve seen flashy pictures and women in tight-fitted clothes running down a beach. Running for me is definitely a love it kinda thing so I’m going try my best to inspire you to feel the same.
I’ve been running for almost 2 years now, semi-regularly, In the winter months it’s an hour run on a Sunday and from April onwards its two hours on a Sunday and one-hour mid-week. I love it! Don’t get me wrong, getting up in the morning is still a pain in the backside but the reward from running and for the rest of the day..but before I give you any spoilers, let’s get on with the list, shall we?
10 reasons to get your run-on this summer!
Endorphins
Better than any tequila and rum chaser, getting a workout high is the best your body can offer and it’s bloody good! You hear words like gym-bunny, muscle machines and people who’re obsessed with working out. It’s not muscles (well, perhaps it is) but for me? it’s the sexy endorphins that go with it that make it all the more worth while.
Look good whilst doing it
Hell yeah! Not to brag, but I rarely see a man or woman run down the road who didn’t look good doing it! Look at anyone who’s motivated, don’t you think they look more attractive? I love to see a motivated person running, whether they’re 16 stone or a size 10 anyone who’s motivated enough to get up, has my vote! Get yourself a nice sexy body to go with it, which leads me to..
Weight
Obviously, When you run you burn calories. Mega calories. They didn’t install treadmills for no reason, it’s the easiest way to burn calories fast. Running is the black tux of the fitness world, it’s the basis to any cardio and always has been. Not only do you lose weight whilst you’re running but it becomes addictive, you crave more endorphins and really feel the benefits! Of course, you’re going to lose weight doing it but you’ll also tone up your legs and bum in the process.
Health
Don’t just burn fat, sort everything out. Running clears the skin, bumps new blood around the body, improving organ function and strengthing muscles all over the body. With the fat burning you also improve your heart function which reduces any heart diseases and cancers relating to blood and heart function. Just remember to run on good trainers, keep your legs strong and your knees powerful!
See the world
Open your eyes for once, Sitting infront of a screen can help you learn a lot and taking annual holidays takes you away from it all but you don’t have to go away to relax. Open the doors and run through a local park, watch the bunnies come out from the shrubbery, see the horses in the fields and just enjoy nature for once!
Bond with a partner
Seems a strange one to add to a list doesn’t it? But the one time me and my partner have together is when we run, we don’t really get to chat but we ‘play’ in the park. We have a kick about with the football, we have races and climb trees, that free time that we have when we run is the best time we have all week. Read how it can strengthen your relationship. Don’t worry if you’re single, there are tonnes of running clubs you can join for free that you can find like-minded people to run with! There are tonnes every day in the national trust area near me.
Save some Moolah
Ditch your gym membership, who wants to stand in a hot sweaty gym anyway? You have free fresh air outside and plenty of cardio action to be had. Oh and strength! Lest we forget there are park benches for box jumps, pushups and tonnes of body weight strength moves, for free!
Because you used to love it /said you wanted to last year..and never did
Procrastination my friend, you got it and you got it bad. So many people say that they’d love to start jogging or exercising. Do it, pick up your trainers and just get on it. It’s not as bad as it seems, it might feel strange the first few weeks but you really get a taste for it!
Live longer
Who wants…to live…FOREVER *Breaks into song* . Yeah seriously, you actually increase your life span when running. There’s a tonne of things that can kill you, harm you in your life but what things actually improve your lifespan? Well, running..for one!
Most importantly…
You can eat
I mean really eat! Like it’s your last meal and food is going out of fashion. You’re burning off so many calories and really kicking your metabolism up the bum, your appetite will be through the roof so it’s the perfect time to chow down and get some food in you!
Bonus: Sleep better!
Yup, just close your eyes and recover your sore muscles. The best kind of sleep is always the sleep where you’re so tired you just wake up completely fresh in the morning, that’s a workout sleep for you!
Have I convinced you yet?
Have a brilliant week whatever you’re doing, Fingers crossed you pick up some motivation along the way.
