My health and fitness 2014: Staying motivated and tips for keeping fit.

Someone read my old ‘how i think my health is’ from 2011-2012 and mentioned how well i’d done.It made me realise i hadn’t told you how i got to be as happy as i am with myself, so i wrote a rough guide on how to be happy with yourself.
*Thankyou Dan T*

This year i’ve changed

I have had a lot of struggles with my weight in my life, and by no means do i think i won’t have them again. From barely eating, to binge eating, from vomiting to extreme exercise diets, shakes i’ve done it all and whilst some would think that’s bad ( and i somewhat agree) i’ve learnt a lot from going through all of it. Living in a world where diet is something you do to be slim for summer is not the world i live in anymore.

This year has been a complete U-Turn for me, i’ve built muscle, i’ve sweated i’ve cried, but from doing these things i’ve realised how hard i can push myself and the amazing results i can get from it. I genuinely wait for the next workout in excitement, doing a hardcore exhausting workout surprisingly has made me more energetic.
I know that i can be good, i know i can achieve because i have achieved and i feel the difference in pushing myself, i have order and structure.

Working hard makes you eat healthier, and i’ve been doing both, i’m now a vegetarian, and i don’t miss it one bit ( well…maybe KFC) but i can make that crunchy crust on vegetarian recipes.

Things i’ve learnt this year:
  1. Never say ‘ i’ll workout later’ :You won’t and even if you manage to you won’t have the energy. Workout first thing in the morning to get the most of your workouts.
  2. Never say ‘I’ll burn it off’ : You won’t.
Think about not eating that donut and the fat you’ve saved yourself from burning.
Pushing yourself harder one day because you’ve had a whole chocolate cake to means exhausting your muscles to burn it off, meaning they’re fatigued the next day. It will impact you.
  3. No One is your friend: This sounds horrible, but people are horrible. Whether its your mother, brother, best friend or stranger. They’re going to see the hard work you put in and feel upset about themselves. I hear a lot of abuse about my workouts and my eating habits but it pushes me to be stronger. They’re not doing it to be hurtful they’re doing it to feel better about themselves, help them.
  4. Muscle means fat burning:
This is the big one for me, i always thought of muscle as manly and grotesque, but our bodies are muscle, surrounded in fat. The more we use our muscles the bigger they are and the less space we give to fat. It is good to have muscle, you won’t bulk by lifting weight.
  5. My body isn’t an apple:
My whole life i’ve been told i’m big boned, i’m not. I do store fat around my middle but it doesn’t define me, i can break the mould i was cast and become the shape i want by strength training.
  6. I don’t need meat to get fit:
Meat= protein= sexy. Wrong.   Low fat high protein high carb= sexy. All diet myths are thrown out of the window when you learn when to eat carbs, how to eat protein and what REALLY is low fat.
  7. Organisation is the key to healthiness:
Making sure you have your meals planned in advance, putting out your workout clothes, preparing daily routine and fitting n your workout above most other things, put in what you want out.

In summary i’m the same weight, but i look better, i lift heavier, i run further and i am passionate. I don’t hate my body, i love it and i love pushing myself to see what my body can do.

So it takes me longer to get to where i want to be, atleast i’m on track. Some people will see abs within 6 weeks, sometimes it takes months, as long as you’re doing what you can then be happy with yourself.
