Prepare yourself for summer – beachbodies and healthy minds

Ok it might seem like a simple concept, to just ‘get healthy’ but we all have this mass panic to get healthy (or slim) before we go on holiday. Asthough the locals are judging us for putting on a few pounds so we spend months forcing a strange diet on ourself and exausting our bodies and we get there and realise that the locals don’t quite eat what we do…

I wanted to share some simple easy health tips before you go away, that’ll make feeling better about your body so much easier. Since I’m booking a last minute holiday for july, undecided yet. I wanted to share with you, my plan first, for eating and getting in shape before the holidays. After all, it’s only 2 months away…

Workout the right diet for you.
I have a diet guide to the most common and effective diets out there, so find one that suits you and stick with it. If you think you could have an intollerance, check out the elimination diet for more information.

Workout a simple exercise routine.
Don’t panic, I’m not talking about anything hard but what’s the point in eating healthy and feeling better about yourself if your body doesn’t feel strong enough to walk down the beach for 45 mins or wak around the historical sites. We all know that holiday sites aren’t foot-friendly so get some power in your legs!

Workout what you want to achieve.
The holiday season is here, so do you have 2 and a half months or 4 weeks? Workout a goal that’s achievable in that time. I see a lot of advice to not aim high incase you miss your goal, but if you aim to low you’re only making yourself think that health is hard to achieve, it’s really not.

Treat yourself.
Buy some new holiday gear! It’s a time to celebrate your body, whether you’re in that size 10 you’ve been hoping for or whether you’ve managed to get down to a 16. You are what you are, make yourself feel glamourous!

When you get there, don’t go crazy.
I always find that I over induldge on the food and spend the rest of the day at the side of the pool because I’ve eaten too much. I get home and I’m miserable that I’ve missed so much of the holiday and that I can’t bare to look at the pictures of me. So, treat yourself, but don’t ruin your holiday. I try to eat more than I normally would, because walking all day burns the calories off, but I focus on the types of foods I’m eating..which leads me on.

Eat local.
You’re abroad, you can eat the new foreign foods that are on offer. Staying at the hotel buffet often only opens the door to their style of cooking an english breakfast, which really limits your options. Why not pop down to the town centre and eat authentic? You could save yourself some oily bloat and experience something new too!howtoprepareyourselfforholidayseasonhealthily

For me, I’ll be;

On the paleo diet for around 70% of the time until my holiday. Paleo for me is just cutting out anything that’s processed, I still have milk and sugar, dark chocolate and the occasional bit of cheese but for everything else I make it from scratch and mostly eat fresh vegetabes and little fruit.

Working out 3 times a week including a 1 hour run on a Sunday. I normally workout daily but on such a healthy diet I’m able to relax a bit, I try to cut down the cardio and work on toning up my wobbly bits, I want to feel comfortable on my holidays with toned legs and lean arms! I’ve just started the Beachbody T25 workout dvd’s.

Focusing on positivity. This year I’ve had a tonne of worries with my qualification and with money and it drastically impacted my health and my weight. I was eating foods I’m intollerant to, causing painful swelling anemia and kidney problems, which ofcourse lead to worry and then panic attacks. Not only does focusing on positives help with my mental health it also really helps me appreciate my body and want to be as fit and strong as I can. I’ve written an article on how just being confident in yourself can really change your body so if being fit for summer is what you want, do it propery and confidently.

From paleo alone I normally lose 2″ in a month from cutting any gluten and processed sugar but combined with some strength training I should tone up really quickly!

It’s Beach season, get prepared..

I don’t subscribe to “Beachbody ready” I subscribe to “healthy – always”

Yep, I’m talking about thatAre you beach body ready?

“Beachbody ready” caused and out cry last year because a poster was implying that you NEED to be sexy and fit if you’re daring to go on to a beach. I think the phrase means different things to different people, because I didn’t get that,to me the poster was saying “are you going to feel your best this year?” and I’m all for feeling great, whether or not that means looking great or not.

I think that any motivation, whether from a negative or positive source, is great if it’s going to rile people up enough to get them inspired.

Sorry, I can never keep these things short, I ramble on and on.. My bad. Have a great summer what ever you do, just do it with a positive mind!

  1. I subscribe to I’ll wear/eat/do what I want if it makes me happy and doesn’t harm anyone else. 😉 I am all for eating local, especially when abroad. I would hate to travel so far yet not experience everything I could.

  3. Interesting to read other people’s guide to get ready for the summer. I’ll be joining the gym in June and workout an hour every other evening, and start to eat healthy again!
